Friends who have been in touch for 20 years (due to phone) finally get to meet one other in person….

Two people who only communicated on the phone to one another began a connection that lasted almost twenty years because of a misdialed number.

Gladys Hankerson and Mike Moffitt are the two people who are in question, it has been decided.
Florida native Gladys Hankerson was attempting to contact her sister who lives in Maryland.

When she needed to make the call, she dialed 401 rather than 410. In Rhode Island, where he was, Mike Moffitt answered the phone.

Hankerson knew she had dialed the wrong number when she heard a voice that was not her sister’s. This just so happened to happen a few more times.

Moffitt believes that his father instilled in him the habit of always picking up the phone since you never know who might be calling.

After a day of waiting, Moffitt finally inquired as to her identity and the reason for her contact.

Hankerson then abruptly halted the exchange. With this conversation, the foundation of their enduring connection was laid.

Hankerson’s life at the time was particularly challenging because she had recently gone through a divorce and

her son had abruptly passed away. She felt extremely inspired by Moffitt, who also became one of her best friends.

Hankerson was surprised when she answered her front door the weekend before Thanksgiving. Moffitt returned from his family’s vacation in Florida and went to Hankerson’s home to meet up with him.

It was a joyous day for both of them when they could finally see one another again. This Thanksgiving,

according to Hankerson, was the best one he’s ever had. She wished with all her heart that the world had more people like Mike.
