Villagers band together to help an elderly man relocate his home so that he can be nearer to his family.

A hamlet in the Philippines banded together to help an elderly man who had recently lost his wife. Together, they moved his house closer to his kids so he could be nearer to his family.

The Filipino ideal of ‘Bayanihan,’ when communities band together to assist and care for one another,

is exemplified by this act of kindness. The entire town comes together to transfer a family’s home to a new location in this long-standing custom that is frequently portrayed in literature.

On Reddit, a video of this endearing act went viral, surprise and motivating people all around the world.

Over 69.4K people have upvoted the Reddit video that depicts Filipino peasants transporting an old man’s house on bamboo poles.

The recently bereaved dad wanted to move closer to his children, but his house was too big for them to move.

In order to distribute the weight evenly, the locals banded together to help and attached bamboo poles beneath the home.

The touching tale demonstrating the generosity of the neighborhood was posted by a Reddit member going by the moniker ‘westcoastcdn19’.

Because his wife had passed away, the grandfather had no one to care for him, therefore his children wanted him to reside close by.

The man’s daughter showed her gratitude by making a supper for the volunteers who assisted in moving her father’s

house, they stated, adding that his house was too heavy for his relatives to lift. It ‘felt like a fiesta,’

‘This is genuinely old-school Bayanihan tradition from the Philippines.

Reddit user u/iMadrid11 expressed amazement that the custom of neighbors banding together to relocate houses,

as described in literature and artwork, still exists today. They pointed out that the behavior is less widespread now that concrete and rebar are used to construct

the majority of homes. The Tagalog term “bayan,” which means a country, town, or village, is where the word ‘Bayanihan’ originates.

According to Mixed Culture, volunteers share the weight and move the house by tying bamboo poles lengthwise

and crosswise. To successfully transfer the house to its new site, it takes 15 to 20 persons.

The foundation of Bayanihan is the Filipino principle of lending a helping hand to those in need without expecting anything in return.

The concept of ‘kababayan’ or ‘fellow countrymen,’ or a sense of community, is firmly established in Filipino society.

Although it is more frequently practiced in rural regions, the Bayanihan spirit is still present among Filipinos

today and has been shown in a variety of ways. Filipinos go above and beyond to help out their fellow kababayans who are in need during natural catastrophes.

It used to be relatively usual in the Philippines for townspeople to band together and relocate a real house.

Bayanihan, the general name for it, literally translates as ‘to participate in the community.’ Bayan is defined as ‘town/community + (h)an is to do together,’ according to u/heyspalm.

That is standard procedure and embodies the Bayanihan spirit. It implies to be a group of individuals or a community.

It is where our term ‘hero’(‘Bayani’), which is also a great name, derives from. Thanks for sharing this OP;

it made me cry and gave me a deep need for home, which to me is the group of my people,” said user Helpful_Yak4639.

‘Seeing people raise objects like automobiles and houses collectively always astounds me.
