A man with Down syndrome who had just gone on a date with his future wife said that he had ‘already written his wedding speech.’

A beautiful thing is love. Even more lovely is the idea of two people who compliment one another finding one other and deciding to be together forever.

But it’s challenging to find love. People in the dating pool establish criteria that they want their potential partners to meet, canceling out anyone who does not meet the criteria.

While many individuals believe that standards should be established before beginning a romantic relationship, a person who checks all of your boxes may still not be your ideal spouse.

This demonstrates even more how difficult it is to find love. Even while the dating scene is challenging in and of itself, people with genetic problems have additional challenges.

This group of persons frequently encounters prejudice, rejection, and oppression throughout the same stage of adulthood that regular adults endure.

Due to the rejection of individuals in the dating pool who similarly repress their own emotions, it is difficult for people with genetic abnormalities to express themselves.

Adults with Down syndrome are among the groups of people who suffer from discrimination in the dating industry.

The National Down Syndrome Society noted that, like most adults, people with Down syndrome have needs for closeness,

despite the fact that there hasn’t been much research on dating among people with Down syndrome.

This suggests that people with Down syndrome should have the same freedom as other adults to express their emotions and fall in love.

Unlike many others with the genetic disorder, Heidi Crowter and James Carter, two adults with Down syndrome,

were able to find love in the competitive dating market. On September 3, 2023, Crowter posted a self-written blog piece on her relationship with Carter.

Few people who are dating will ever realize that the person they just went on a date with is going to be their lifetime companion, but it only took Carter one date to realize Crowter was the one.

In 2017, Carter and Crowter—who shared a family connection—began communicating on Facebook. They continued to talk because of

their shared love of hymns, Christianity, and ultimately, the British sitcom ‘Last of the Summer Wine.’

The couple’s online romance developed for a full year before their parents gave their sincere love their blessing.

After setting up a physical meeting, their internet connection intensified when they actually met, to the point where Carter wrote his wedding speech shortly after their first date.

In fact, he admitted to me that his wedding speech was already written. Crowter discussed with Metro UK in a discussion.

Carter proposed to Crowther on his knees after they had been dating for nearly a year.

James proposed to me at my favorite restaurant after a year of dating when he went down on one knee. I leaped for delight and kissed him since it was the simplest yes of my life, she wrote.

Crowter was thrilled that her favorite person had asked her to spend the rest of time with him, but she was also impressed that he had gotten her parents’ permission first.

The planning for their wedding began in earnest, and although though they had intended for 220 guests to attend the event,

The ceremony, which took place at Hillfields Church in Coventry on July 4, 2020, was live-streamed on YouTube and has received over 47,000 views.
