A Pianist Plays an Elegant Melody Among the Ruins of a Historic Kharkiv Building. Video

On April 14, 2020, a video was posted to Instagram featuring Yaroslav Korolev. In Kharkiv, Ukraine, he was spotted at the piano, surrounded by the ruins of a historic structure.

Yaroslav performed ‘Tenderness,’ a composition by Ukrainian composer ‘Yuriy Vesnyak,’ in the remnants of Kharkiv’s Palace of Labour.

Situated in the western section of Kharkiv’s Constitution Square lies the Palace of Labour. Although it was constructed in 1914,

as the film shows, the wars between Russia and Ukraine have left it essentially in ruins. Yaroslav can be seen performing

in the video below in a scene that some have compared to that of the 2002 war thriller ‘The Pianist.’

Music producer Sergei Romensky, who panned over Yarsolav while he played a lovely melody in the ruined surroundings, shot the video.

Ihor Terekhov, the mayor of Kharkiv, reported that since the beginning of the month, Russian soldiers have damaged or destroyed over 1,600 buildings

in the city, including numerous landmarks. When the conflict began in February, more than half of the city’s

residents left; those who are left are hiding underground in shelters to avoid Russian shelling.
