Will Ferrell Appears with Rarely-Seen 3 Grown-Up Sons & Wife of 23 Years Who Was Just a Friend for a Long Time

Comedian Will Ferrell brought his entire family to the big “Barbie” premiere in London. Ferrell plays the CEO of Mattel in the highly anticipated “Barbie” movie.

However, it is very rare for the actor to appear publicly with his family as he usually keeps his personal life private. Farrell had his wife Viveca Paulin and their three kids: Magnus, 19, Mattias, 16, and Axel,13, by his side.

This was the first time the Ferrell family was seen together since they attended the “Daddy Home 2” premiere in 2017. The actor’s sons all coordinated with suits. The second eldest son Mattias wore a deep blue suit that matched his mother’s a-line dress.

Magnus had a purple one, and the youngest wore a light blue suit. Ferrell wore a black suit but kept the “Barbie” theme by adding a pink tie.

The Ferrell family hardly has a social media presence, so to see them all together was attention-grabbing. Even though the parents keep their children out of the spotlight, the “Anchorman” star and his wife recently attended the “May December” screening at the Cannes Festival.

However, the mystery behind Ferrell’s wife still lies, and the love story that has kept the couple happily married for over two decades.

Who Is Will Ferrell’s Wife?

Paulin was born in Sweden but grew up in Boston. She might have been the inspiration behind the actor’s film. “Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga.”

In 1998 Ferrell and his wife visited Sweden, and as they were hanging out with one of Paulin’s cousins, the mother of three suggested they watch Eurovision. The actor knew nothing about the competition, but that night was the finale, and Ferrell was glued to the TV.

Besides being her husband’s muse and the mother of his three children, Paulin works as an art collector and auctioneer. She has a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from Pomona College and learned about auctioneering at Butterfield & Butterfield.

Now she is a well-known auctioneer at Los Angeles Modern Auctions. It is not surprising that Paulin and Ferrell have one of the best-growing art collections, including the alphabet prints by John Baldessari, which they used to help their children read.

However, the art collector also has acting experience. In fact, she and her husband met in an acting class. The one thing Ferrell loved about her was her sense of humor. Pauline starred in Ferrell’s film “A Night at the Roxbury” and played the role of a Swedish author in “Younger.”

After meeting in the acting class, Paulin and Ferrell dated but ended their relationship when the actor moved to New York for “Saturday Night Live.” They eventually started dating other people but remained friends.

The “Daddy’s Home” actor said hours felt like minutes when he was on the phone with Paulin, but he was ready to end a phone call with his girlfriend after 15 minutes.

When the actor returned to Los Angels, he told Paulin how he felt. Luckily the art collector also had feelings for him. Ferrell could not hide his excitement; he said, “I didn’t play it cool at all. I went, ‘I just told my uncle that I’m going to marry you one day!’”

The “Step Brothers” kept his promise. He planned a romantic proposal that ended up being funny and awkward. Ferrell took his wife to the beach, where they had one of their first dates, but Paulin said, “The beach is creepy at night.” and he responded, “Shut up, this is supposed to be really romantic.”

Despite trying his best to get back into the moment, Paulin’s comment threw him off, and he forgot everything he wanted to say. The actor does not even remember if he went down on one knee, but he popped the question and got the yes he needed.

The couple walked down the aisle in 2000 and welcomed their three sons together. Twenty-three years later, Ferrell and his wife are still happily married and get to watch their children develop the actor’s funny bone.

All About Will Ferrell’s Children

Ferrell might make a lot of jokes about being a father, but he loves spending quality time with his children. He is especially proud of his sons for discovering their own sense of humor.

The actor spoke about his eldest son Magnus. He addressed the backlash he got for naming his child “the great one” but explained that he and his wife just wanted their son to have a Scandinavian name.

“The Other Guys” star also gushed over his proud father moment with Magnus. He discovered how much of a good sense of humor his son had when he saw his yearbook photo. The actor explained, “Last year, for his yearbook photo, he borrowed another kid’s glasses. He doesn’t wear glasses. There he is with this very serious look with glasses on.”

The father of three might like his son’s jokes, but he is not too fond of the idea of his teenage son dating. Ferrell and Wahlberg, who star in the film “Daddy’s Home 2,” revealed that their eldest children had formed a friendship.
